ARCE 415: INTERDISCIPLINARY CAPSTONE PROJECT

"Team based interdisciplinary capstone / senior project course. Analysis and evaluation of interdisciplinary challenges associated with integrating the design and construction processes to deliver a project with respect to the design, budget, schedule, quality, and performance expectations of a client"

My culminating senior project for my undergraduate education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo consisted of working in small groups under the direction of Professor Ed Saliklis and his company Poly Shells LLC. Our goal was to create a shade structure for Cal Poly's Leaning Pine Arboretum from conception to analysis and final renders. This studio truly put the "architectural" back in "architectural engineering" and sought to reclaim the historical role of the engineer as the form finder.

My group's structure, The Leaf, takes inspiration from a fallen leaf: essentially weightless yet self-supporting. All group members contributed to all aspects of the project (initial form-finding, site placement, conceptual renders, physical models, connection ideas/mockups, structural analysis, etc.) but my focus was on the 3 connection types needed to support our structure.
