The Pilot Automac features a double-knock auto-advance system.
Double-knock
You have to press the eraser cap first to extend the lead sleeve, then again if you want to advance the lead
Auto-advance
you only need to extend the lead once and the system will allow you to write continuously until the lead runs out
Here is a gif I created from Pentel Canada's Youtube channel describing how the Pentel Orenz Nero works. The Orenz Nero and Automac both have double-knock auto-advance systems. As you press the lead sleeve on the paper, it exposes the lead until the lead has run out.
The pencil comes in a nice little case for protection. There is a small care guide too.
Additionally, the sleeve that covers the case matches with the pencil nicely. The body of the Automac has an iridescent factor to it, and it can be seen a little bit here.
The weight of the Automac is the perfect - enough to feel solid and robust but not too much to cause fatigue. The grip is also the right amount of knurl; the grid pattern toward the tip keeps the pencil from spinning without being too abrasive against your finger.
The Automac is definitely one of the prettiest pencils in my collection. Its strong, minimal aesthetic combined with the auto-advance feature make this a special pencil.
