SASHA VELOUR
Sasha Velour is a drag queen from Brooklyn, New York who embraces all forms of gender expression. Sasha was on season 9 of Rupaul's Drag Race and is known for being a bald queen (not wearing wigs). She won her season with an infamous lipsync to Whitney Houston's "So Emotional" and by taking off her wig, revealing rose petals underneath.
This piece was also created with mostly recycled materials. The yarn, rose, dress, and backdrop were all thrifted. The sparkly glove was a foam from Michael's and the softer part was thrifted as well. The face and skin is watercolor. The dress was originally a green and orange, and more watercolor was added to match the original dress colors.
Even only focusing on the bust made this project a larger scale than the original Trixie work. Special attention was paid to the unibrow, tattoos, and various bows on the gloves and dress.
